ALISADUDAJ SS26: Silent Engravings Turns Memory Into Form
Silent Engravings
At London Fashion Week, ALISADUDAJ did not compete with the volume of the calendar. Alisa Dudaj chose a quieter register. Her Spring Summer 2026 collection, Silent Engravings, entered the room through wool, handwork and the kind of detail that reveals itself slowly.
The collection begins with a personal inheritance. Dudaj remembers the delicate straw artworks made by her great-grandfather, images that first appeared to be paintings before their construction became visible: thousands of narrow slivers assembled by hand with extraordinary patience. That discovery became more than a family reference. It offered a way to think about time, labour and the marks an object can carry long after its maker has gone.
Presented with Fashion Scout in London on 21 September 2025, Silent Engravings translates that memory into a wardrobe of pale wool, soft black, earthy neutrals and one concentrated note of red. The silhouettes are clear, but never empty. Their strength lives close to the surface.
The hand leaves a record.
“Craft doesn’t need to speak loudly to be remembered,” Dudaj says. It is the sentence that best explains the collection.
Wet felting, embroidery and hand knitting do not appear as decorative quotations. They determine the character of the garments. Wool is compacted, pulled and softened until it holds both structure and movement. Fringed surfaces bring the hand into view. Embroidered red details trace the body like a line of remembered ornament, while sculptural collars and hoods frame the face with an almost protective intimacy.
Fabrication is central to ALISADUDAJ’s language. Natural fibres anchor the collection, and traditional processes are reworked with local artisans rather than reproduced as nostalgia. The result feels alive because it refuses the polished anonymity of industrial perfection. Small irregularities are not problems to erase. They are evidence that time and touch remain inside the clothes.
Heritage is not a costume.
Dudaj’s Albanian heritage is present throughout Silent Engravings, but it never becomes costume. The collection draws from wood carving, hand embroidery and artisan objects that preserve memory through repetition. Those references are distilled into proportion, texture and construction rather than copied as surface symbols.
That distinction matters. Fashion often treats cultural heritage as a visual archive to be sampled, separated from the communities and techniques that gave it meaning. ALISADUDAJ takes a more intimate route. Heritage becomes a method of working: slowly, materially and with respect for the people whose knowledge continues through the act of making.
A hooded column in ivory wool carries a ceremonial stillness. A white coat opens into rounded volume without losing its ease. Elsewhere, a dense fringed skirt, hand-worked knit and softly twisted tailoring show how restraint can hold complexity. These clothes do not explain their origins at first glance. They allow the story to remain embedded within them.
Restraint carries its own force.
Compared with Dudaj’s earlier work, Silent Engravings feels newly confident in what it leaves out. The silhouettes are pared back, yet their simplicity is never neutral. A narrow black dress is cut with a decisive opening. A long coat carries its scale through weight rather than embellishment. Cream draping follows the body without becoming fragile.
The muted palette keeps attention on the construction. White and ivory reveal changes in texture. Black turns the silhouette into a graphic statement. The final red look interrupts the calm with controlled heat, a closing note that makes the restraint before it feel even more deliberate.
This is clothing designed to be worn, held onto and understood over time. Its value does not depend on a logo or an immediate seasonal signal. It comes from the hours inside the material and from the relationship between a garment, its maker and the person who eventually lives in it.

Silent Engravings understands that memory does not need to be literal to remain visible. It can survive as pressure in felt, patience in a knitted surface, or a red line following the edge of a dress. In Dudaj’s hands, the past is neither fixed nor distant. It becomes something the body can carry forward.
